BMP Character

No a BMP Character has nothing to do with a bitmap character.

It is a character which Unicode code point belongs to the basic multilingual plane (= its value is inferior to 0xFFFF). It contrasts with supplementary character. All BMP characters can effectivelly be encoded using 2 bytes.
